Kid Ricketts Trail

AKA Dry Lake Trail

BIO:
Dan Parker, alias Kid Ricketts, was the younger bother of Butch Cassidy. He robbed a stagecoach in Wyoming and then fled to the La Sal Mountains in Utah where he was captured by Joe Bush. After serving time in Wyoming State Prison he returned to Utah and went strait.
DIRECTIONS:
From the railroad tracks, head south 2 ½ miles. Take the left turn off the paved road and continue south on the main road. This is listed as the Flint Trail on some maps. On the “San Rafael Motorized Route Designations” map it is EM1010. At about 10 miles you will see the brush around Horse Bench Reservoir. In another mile, you will be at the dam, continue about a ½ mile and turn left on designated route. Sign says “Dead End”, but we have permission to continue through a wash.

The trail through the wash is vague, and you may need to be with a guide unless you are experienced in the area. You will recognize the Dry Lake area when you see the small geyser and the heart-shaped dry lake. Take the road heading west. DO NOT take a left turn as this road leads to private property. Continue west straight out to County Road.

DESCRIPTION:
This is an easy trail across high desert country. The trail is rocky in places, but not difficult. The wash trail is sandy and not clearly marked. The geyser is a fun attraction for the kids.
